Teenager’s Escape Foiled by Quick-Thinking Man, Who Trips Her at Mall
A 17-year-old student from Nonthaburi, Thailand, was apprehended on September 12 after attempting to rob a gold shop in the Big C hypermarket in the Rattanathibet area. The teenager, who had recently fallen victim to a cyber scam that stole her father’s life insurance payout, took drastic measures in an attempt to recover her losses.
The robbery occurred at the Yaowarat Krungthep goldsmith outlet. The girl, dressed in a pink hat, yellow top, blue gloves, and sunglasses, entered the shop and threatened the 21-year-old store manager, Kulpanisa Dabut, with a kitchen knife. She handed over a note to the manager that read, “Put money and gold in a bag. Don’t shout. Your life is yours. There’s no need to kill.”
Following the demand, the staff filled a bag with necklaces and rings, totaling 208.4g of gold, valued at around 400,000 baht (approximately S$16,000). The teenager then attempted to flee the scene.
However, her escape was quickly foiled. As she dashed out of the store, a middle-aged man seated in the mall’s food court saw the commotion and swiftly stuck out his leg, tripping the young robber. The girl fell but quickly regained her footing and continued running.
A CCTV video captured the entire chase, showing the store staff pursuing the girl, along with a female cleaner trying to detain her. Just as the teen tried to make her way out of the mall, a patrolling police officer apprehended her, with additional officers soon arriving at the scene to take her into custody.
