Live Bullets Fired at Protesters, Leaving One in Critical Condition and Others Injured
On February 9, 2021, Myanmar police opened fire on unarmed protesters in Naypyidaw, resulting in multiple injuries. Among the victims was a 20-year-old woman who was shot in the head during an anti-coup protest. The police reportedly used both live and rubber bullets, injuring at least six people, with two in critical condition. In addition to the woman, another man was shot in the chest.
Videos capturing the moment show the woman falling to the ground after being shot. The violent crackdown marks another escalation in the ongoing protests against the military coup that took place earlier in February.
