28-year-old Singaporean finishes first with a time of 6 minutes 52 seconds, beating Soh Ruiyong’s previous record.

The highly anticipated Pocari Sweat 2.4km challenge finally took place on January 8, 2022, after being postponed from the previous year. The event showcased some of Singapore’s fastest runners, including 24-year-old Gurkha Subas Gurung, who is regarded as one of the quickest Gurkhas in Singapore.

Other notable participants included national athlete Soh Ruiyong, who had previously clocked a time of 6 minutes and 53 seconds for the 2.4km distance, as well as Ethan Yan (7 minutes 6 seconds), Jeevanesh Soundararajah (Singapore’s representative in the 5,000m at the 2015 SEA Games), and national middle-distance athlete Thiruben Thana Rajan.

The race witnessed three athletes breaking the 7-minute barrier. Jeevanesh Soundararajah, in particular, surged ahead in the final lap, finishing in an impressive 6 minutes and 52 seconds, narrowly beating Soh Ruiyong’s previous record. This performance marked a significant achievement for both the runners and the event.
