Malaysian Man Used Compromising Videos to Coerce Victim Into Paying Large Sum
A 33-year-old man from Malaysia has been arrested for allegedly extorting sexual favours and large sums of money from women he befriended online, including one woman from Singapore.
The woman, who had met the man through a dating app, was coerced into traveling to Malaysia, where compromising videos she had previously sent him were used as leverage. To prevent the man from distributing the videos, she transferred approximately $200,000 to a bank account he provided.
The Singapore Police Force was alerted to the crime after the victim filed a report on October 19, 2020. According to the victim, after sending the compromising videos, the man suggested they meet in Malaysia, where she was picked up by a male driver. The suspect then allegedly threatened to release the videos unless she engaged in sexual acts with the driver.
The case is being thoroughly investigated, highlighting the dangers of online interactions and the need for caution on dating platforms.
