Singapore’s First Independent Contemporary Arts Centre to Temporarily Move to Goodman Arts Centre
The Substation, Singapore’s first independent contemporary arts centre, will vacate its premises at 45 Armenian Street in July 2021 to allow for renovation works led by the National Arts Council (NAC). Established in 1990, the centre has been a key venue for local artists, housing an art gallery, a black box theatre, and a studio space.
The NAC has announced that the renovation is expected to take two years. During this period, The Substation has been offered temporary space at the Goodman Arts Centre in Mountbatten. Once the renovations are complete, The Substation will have the option to return under the Framework for Arts Spaces.
This move marks a significant transition for the arts centre, which has played a crucial role in nurturing Singapore’s arts scene for over three decades.
