Changi Airport Cluster Expands to 26 as New Unlinked Case Emerges at Sengkang General Hospital

Health Ministry confirms 16 new COVID-19 cases, including one unlinked case involving a nurse

The Changi Airport COVID-19 cluster has grown to 26 cases, as Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 16 new infections on May 12, bringing the total number of cases to 61,419. Among these, 10 are community cases, including one unlinked case involving a nurse at Sengkang General Hospital.

The unlinked case (Case 63096) is a 33-year-old male Philippines national who works as an operating theatre nurse at the hospital. He developed symptoms, including a runny nose, cough, sore throat, and fever, starting on May 9, and his test on May 10 returned positive for COVID-19 the following day. He has tested preliminarily positive for the B1617 variant. Despite having received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, he is now undergoing further testing.

Additionally, nine of the community cases are linked to previous outbreaks, including several individuals connected to the Changi Airport cluster. MOH has added 15 new locations to its list of places visited by confirmed cases.
