A duo turns viral gong clip into a powerful artistic message using Parai and Thavil drums.
In response to a recent incident in Singapore where a woman disrupted a man’s Hindu prayer by loudly clanging a gong, two local musicians have used their talents to send a creative and meaningful message. The woman’s actions, which sparked heavy criticism online, prompted the police to launch an investigation, with the 48-year-old woman assisting with the inquiries.
Musical duo Akshara Thiru and NJ Pravin took a different approach to the controversy, turning the viral gong clip into a powerful artistic statement. Akshara, a music educator and founder of Damaru Singapore, along with his 19-year-old friend Pravin, remixed the clip, creating a 59-second video featuring themselves playing traditional Indian drums. Akshara played the Parai while Pravin performed on the Thavil, transforming the disruptive sound into a beautiful and harmonious rhythm. Their video, shared on Facebook, not only offers a creative perspective but also serves as a message of unity and cultural expression.
