“49-Year-Old Dies a Day After Second Vaccine Dose, Authorities Investigate”
A third person has died in Japan after receiving a Moderna coronavirus vaccine from a batch later recalled due to contamination, though Japanese authorities have stated that no direct causal link has been established. The 49-year-old man received his second shot on August 11 and passed away the following day. He was reportedly only allergic to buckwheat, according to the health ministry.
This death follows two previous fatalities, and like the earlier cases, the ministry has yet to confirm any connection between the fatality and the vaccine. The man’s shot was part of a recall issued on August 26, affecting 1.63 million doses, but it was not from the batches found to contain stainless steel fragments. The affected batches were produced in Spain under contract by Moderna.
