Korean drama’s viral death game number leads to thousands of calls to an unsuspecting man.
The global phenomenon “Squid Game” on Netflix has left viewers captivated, but it also created an unintended issue for one real-life individual. In a pivotal scene, a character, played by Gong Yoo, provides a phone number that leads the protagonist, Seong Gi-Hun, into a series of deadly challenges. This number, shown clearly on-screen, sparked thousands of curious fans to call in hopes of joining the game.
However, the number, which was intended to be fictional, was misprinted. Due to a production error, the first three digits (the area code) were omitted, allowing real calls to go through to a completely different person. The unsuspecting man, who had the number for over 10 years and did not watch the show, received an overwhelming 4,000 calls daily, leaving him baffled and confused.
Netflix has reportedly been in touch with the man to resolve the situation. Fans of the show, eagerly trying to enter the world of “Squid Game”, were left dialing a real phone number with unexpected results.
