While flight prices are affordable, the cost of mandatory Covid-19 tests is proving a hurdle for travellers.
Fully vaccinated travellers can soon travel between Singapore and Malaysia via the newly established Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL), connecting Changi Airport with Kuala Lumpur International Airport starting on November 29, 2021. However, the high cost of Covid-19 tests may deter many from taking advantage of the VTL for a short getaway.
For the round-trip, the cost of required Covid-19 tests in both Singapore and Malaysia is close to S$500, a price that is nearly four times the cost of a two-way flight ticket. Tickets on AirAsia, for example, can start as low as S$130. Despite affordable flight options, the additional testing expenses are proving to be a significant obstacle for potential travellers looking to visit their neighbouring country.
