Ukraine President Reveals Plot to Overthrow Government, Linked to Russia

Zelenskiy claims intelligence services have uncovered a plan for a coup, set for early December.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has revealed that Ukrainian intelligence services have uncovered a plot involving both Russians and Ukrainians to overthrow his government in early December. In a lengthy press conference, Zelenskiy stated that the intelligence services had gathered audio recordings of the conspirators discussing their plans, which allegedly involved seeking the support of Ukraine’s wealthiest man, Rinat Akhmetov.

Zelenskiy mentioned that the plot was set to take place between December 1 and 2, though he did not provide additional details or directly accuse Russia’s government of involvement. He clarified that Akhmetov was not part of the coup attempt. In response, Akhmetov strongly denied any connection to the plot, calling the president’s claims an “absolute lie.” He emphasized his commitment to a democratic and united Ukraine, including Crimea and Donbass.

The Kremlin quickly rejected any involvement in the alleged coup attempt.
