The Ministry of Health updates vaccination guidelines, urging a booster dose for individuals aged 18 and above after nine months.
According to new guidelines issued by Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) on January 5, 2022, individuals aged 18 and above who have completed their primary Covid-19 vaccination series are now required to receive a booster dose within 270 days (approximately nine months) to maintain their “fully vaccinated” status.
The recommendation comes from the Expert Committee on Covid-19 Vaccination (EC19V), which advised that the booster dose should be an mRNA vaccine. This rule also extends to those who have received non-mRNA vaccines under the National Vaccination Programme or other World Health Organization Emergency Use Listing (EUL) vaccines. However, for many people, the booster will not be necessary just yet as they are still within the window for their primary doses.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health anticipates that the non-mRNA vaccine Novavax will be available as an option for booster shots in the near future.
