Ukraine Drops NATO Ambitions, Says Alliance Won’t Accept It

Zelenskyy Acknowledges NATO’s Reluctance to Include Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has announced that the country is no longer pursuing NATO membership, acknowledging that the alliance is not prepared to accept Ukraine. In an interview with U.S. TV channel ABC News, Zelenskyy explained that Ukraine had come to understand NATO’s reluctance to admit the country, citing fears of escalating tensions with Russia.

Zelenskyy noted that his interest in NATO membership faded after realizing the alliance’s unwillingness to confront Russia, which has been a major factor in Ukraine’s ongoing conflict. He also pointed out that Russia’s demands for a ceasefire include requiring Ukraine to adopt a neutrality clause in its constitution, effectively barring any future NATO membership.
