Thundery showers and Sumatra squalls set to bring wet conditions for most of the first half of the month.
Singapore’s weather will be characterised by frequent thundery showers during the afternoons throughout the first two weeks of April 2025, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) has announced. With the Northeast Monsoon conditions gradually weakening, the city-state will experience inter-monsoon conditions until May, which will bring lighter winds and more frequent thunderstorms.
The thundery showers are expected to occur most afternoons, and occasionally continue into the evening. In addition to these showers, the MSS has warned that Sumatra squalls could bring gusty winds and heavy rainfall on a few mornings, leading to wetter-than-usual conditions across the island. Singaporeans should be prepared for higher-than-average rainfall during this period.
The temperature will remain relatively high, with daily maximums ranging from 33°C to 34°C, though some days could see temperatures soar to 35°C.
This comes after the record-breaking rainfall in late March 2025. The last fortnight of March saw exceptionally heavy rainfall, with Changi experiencing precipitation 570% higher than usual, and temperatures dropping to a cool 22°C. March 2025 became the wettest March on record, surpassing the previous record of 451mm in 2004 with a new total of 482.9mm. The heaviest rainfall in the latter part of the month was recorded in Kallang, with 216.8mm falling in a single day on March 20, caused by a surge of north-easterly winds over the South China Sea.
