Tourists at the Hyatt Ziva in Puerto Morelos are rushed to safety after armed assailants open fire, with two fatalities reported.
A violent incident unfolded on the beach of the Hyatt Ziva in Puerto Morelos, near Cancún, when a group of 15 armed men stormed the area and opened fire on Thursday. State authorities have confirmed that two individuals were killed, believed to be involved in a drug-related confrontation.
The attackers, reportedly wielding long guns, targeted the beach, killing a suspected drug dealer. Another individual, possibly linked to the drug trade, was fatally shot after attempting to flee into a hotel room. Although the assailants caused panic among hotel staff and tourists, no visitors were seriously harmed or kidnapped. However, at least one person was injured by being struck with a weapon.
The shooting is part of growing concerns over rising drug violence in the region, which has recently tainted the reputation of Cancún as a safe tourist destination.
