Customers Say Goodbye After Rich & Good Cake Shop Raises Swiss Roll Prices by 20%-30%

Popular Singapore Bakery Faces Backlash Over Price Hike Due to Increased Raw Material and Freight Costs

Rich & Good Cake Shop, a beloved bakery in Singapore known for its fluffy Swiss rolls, has sparked frustration among customers after announcing a significant price increase in January 2022. The shop, which gained a loyal following for offering affordable cakes, revealed that prices would rise by 20% to 30%, starting from January 16, 2022.

The bakery posted on Facebook and Instagram, thanking customers for their support in 2021 and explaining the reasons behind the price hike. According to the post, the increase was driven by the escalating costs of raw materials and freight charges. Despite efforts to maintain current prices, Rich & Good stated that they had no choice but to revise their prices to cover the rising expenses.

“We have tried our best to maintain current prices. Unfortunately, consecutive price increases of raw materials and freight charges have left us with little option but to revise our prices to cover some of these costs,” the bakery explained.

The updated prices have left many customers disappointed, with some expressing their frustration on social media, claiming that the increase makes the cakes less affordable. The Swiss rolls, once a budget-friendly treat, have now become a more expensive indulgence.

Despite the backlash, the bakery remains committed to providing quality products, and the decision to raise prices reflects the broader trend of increasing costs that many businesses have been grappling with. Customers, however, have been quick to express their discontent, with some deciding to bid farewell to the bakery after years of support.
