England faces favorable group stage draw alongside Iran and USA, with the potential addition of one from Wales, Scotland, or Ukraine
England has received a favorable draw for the 2022 World Cup, being placed in Group B with Iran and the United States. If Scotland or Wales qualify through the playoffs, they will also join the group.
Gareth Southgate’s squad will face Iran in their opening match on November 21, marking their first-ever senior encounter with the team. The second match will be against the USA on November 25, followed by a final group-stage game on November 29, which will be against the winners of the European playoff, still to be decided between Scotland, Wales, or Ukraine.
Scotland’s playoff was postponed after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with the rescheduled match set for June. The winner will face Wales in Cardiff.
Meanwhile, Group D presents a potential tough challenge for the winners of Group B, with France, the reigning world champions, drawn alongside Denmark, Tunisia, and the winner of the playoff between Peru, the UAE, or Australia.
As for the hosts, Qatar has been drawn into a challenging group alongside the Netherlands, African champions Senegal, and Ecuador. The tournament kicks off on November 21 with Qatar facing Ecuador in the opening match at Al Bayt Stadium, near Doha.
