Explosion in Tuas Sends 8 to SGH’s Burn Centre with Serious Injuries

Workers were seen being hosed down after an industrial fire, with several sustaining serious burns.

On February 24, a fire in Tuas led to eight individuals being rushed to the Burn Centre at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) with severe burn injuries. The fire, which broke out around 11:25am at 32E Tuas Avenue 11, involved an industrial mixer and was eventually brought under control using two water jets.

In a statement, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that 65 workers from nearby units had self-evacuated before their arrival. The patients, suffering from serious burns and potential smoke inhalation, were transferred to SGH’s specialized Burn Centre, which handles such cases for patients in stable condition.

A video posted on Facebook by SG Road Vigilante described the incident as an explosion, showing workers in torn clothing being escorted to a safe location and hosed down by colleagues. The SCDF is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
