Cinema closures come amid rising community COVID-19 cases in Singapore
Filmgarde Cineplexes has announced it will temporarily cease operations at all its locations starting Tuesday, May 18, 2021, due to the Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) measures implemented in response to the surge in COVID-19 cases in Singapore.
The cinema chain, with branches at Bugis+, Tampines Century Square, and Kallang Leisure Park, made the decision in light of the government’s tightening of restrictions to curb community transmission.
Filmgarde emphasized that the closure is a proactive measure to prioritize the health and safety of both patrons and staff. Moviegoers impacted by the closure are encouraged to contact Filmgarde at marketing@filmgarde.com.sg to request refunds for any tickets purchased.
On May 17, the Ministry of Health reported 21 new community cases, 11 of which were unlinked, further underlining the need for heightened vigilance.
