“Grab Driver Gives 150 Packets of Chicken Rice to Those in Need at Newton Circus Car Park”

“Teeruk Syah’s initiative aims to provide meals to delivery drivers, taxi drivers, and anyone in need.”

On August 27, 2021, a Grab driver, Teeruk Syah, took it upon himself to give back to the community by distributing 150 packets of Adam Chicken Rice to those in need at Newton Circus car park at 12:15pm. Syah, who had recently transitioned to working as a Grab driver after resigning from his civil servant job at the start of the pandemic, wanted to help delivery riders, taxi drivers, and anyone struggling to get a meal.

The initiative was born out of his experiences as a driver, where he learned to better appreciate the hard work of fellow delivery riders, despite facing some negative interactions with customers. The chicken rice was purchased with contributions from Syah, his girlfriend, and his friends, and was made possible through the support of his friend, the owner of Adam Chicken Rice, whose business has been impacted by COVID-19.

Syah’s act of kindness aims to remind people that even small gestures, like offering a meal, can make a significant difference to those going through tough times. Those looking to redeem their meal were told to look out for a silver Prius in the area.
