: Group of Diners Verbally Abuses Safe-Distancing Officer at Lau Pa Sat

A group defies new regulations, attacking the officer trying to enforce Covid-19 guidelines.

A video circulating on social media shows a group of diners at Lau Pa Sat in Singapore verbally abusing a safe distancing officer who was trying to enforce the new Covid-19 measures. The group, which exceeded the five-person limit for gatherings, became hostile when the officer informed them that they were violating the rules, even though they had split into different tables.

The incident, which took place after the tightening of restrictions on May 8, saw multiple members of the group hurling vulgarities and making rude gestures toward the officer. Some even acted in an intimidating manner. The video was posted on May 9 by Facebook user Max Mamba, who referenced the government’s comments about a potential return to Phase 2 restrictions due to rising cases.

While the group tried to argue that they were seated at separate tables, the regulations clearly state that gatherings of more than five people, even when split across multiple tables, are prohibited.
