Every year, millions of people set ambitious resolutions—whether it’s running a marathon, writing a novel, learning a new language, or getting fit. Yet, for many, these goals remain unfulfilled. Why is it so hard to make lasting progress, and how can you break the cycle in 2022?
For me, it’s the goal of finishing the first draft of a novel. It’s a realistic aim, not expecting perfection or even publication—just the act of completing the manuscript. Yet, this resolution has been postponed for years, despite being at the top of my to-do list since 2017.
Perhaps you have a similar goal: running a race, losing weight, learning yoga, or even diving into a creative project like quilting or family history research. These mid- to long-term goals are often achievable, given the right amount of time and effort. But many of us find ourselves procrastinating—often even when we have extra time on our hands, like during last year’s lockdowns.
