No warning before attack on Gaza City building as Israel targets Hamas officials amid ongoing conflict
An Israeli airstrike on a three-story building in Gaza City has tragically killed eight children and two women, all from the same extended family. The attack, which occurred on May 15, is the deadliest single strike since the conflict escalated this week. Recovery efforts are still underway in the rubble of the building, located near the Shati refugee camp.
Mohammed Hadidi, whose family was among the victims, shared that his wife and five children had gone to visit relatives to celebrate the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Four of his children, aged six to 14, died in the strike, while an 11-year-old is still missing. Only his five-month-old son survived. Among the wreckage, children’s toys and holiday food were found, further highlighting the tragedy.
Neighbors reported that the airstrike occurred without any prior warning, and witnesses described seeing bodies rushed to the hospital following the attack. According to reports, Israeli warplanes dropped at least three bombs on the building.
In response to the attack, Israel’s military stated that it had targeted “senior Hamas officials” and destroyed an apartment used for terror infrastructure in the area. The airstrike came after Hamas militants launched a heavy barrage of rockets into Israel, causing widespread alarms in cities like Tel Aviv. Despite efforts by Israeli medics, a 50-year-old man was declared dead after being found in a rocket-damaged apartment.
The situation remains dire as airstrikes and rocket fire continue to escalate the violence, marking a significant intensification of hostilities between Israel and Hamas.
