Charting Our New Way Forward Together’ to Guide Singapore’s Path Post-Pandemic
Finance Minister Lawrence Wong is set to deliver his first annual Budget Statement later today, February 18, at 3:30 p.m. In a Facebook post, Wong shared insights into his preparations for Budget 2022 and unveiled its theme: “Charting Our New Way Forward Together.”
He explained that this theme aims to inspire confidence in Singaporeans as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of a post-pandemic world. “Covid-19 has fundamentally altered our way of life—our work, jobs, social interactions, and health,” Wong noted. As Singapore continues to tackle the ongoing pandemic, it must also look ahead to ensure the nation is ready for future shifts.
Wong emphasized that the Budget would focus on supporting people, families, and future generations, ensuring Singapore is well-positioned for upcoming challenges while reinforcing the country’s social compact. “As one united people, we will chart our new way forward together,” he affirmed.
In keeping with tradition, Wong also mentioned the Ministry of Finance’s annual pre-Budget porridge event, which serves as a light-hearted precursor to the serious business of shaping Singapore’s future through the national Budget.
