Malaysian Couple Claims Forced Eviction by Hougang Landlord After One Day, Dispute Over Deposit

Videos Capture Heated Argument During Alleged Unlawful Eviction

A Malaysian woman and her boyfriend are alleging that they were evicted by their landlord just hours after moving into a rental unit in Hougang. The couple had relocated to a room at Block 620, Hougang Avenue 8, on the evening of January 25. However, the following afternoon, on January 26, they were told by the landlord to vacate the premises immediately.

In a series of videos that captured the confrontation, the landlord, an elderly bespectacled man, was seen in a heated argument with the tenants. The couple claimed that he initially refused to return the rent and deposit amounting to S$800, which included a S$550 deposit. The woman was visibly upset during the exchange.

After her godmother and sister arrived to mediate the situation, the landlord eventually agreed to return S$700, though the couple was still left without the full refund. The incident quickly gained traction online, with the woman’s Facebook post on the matter being shared more than 10,000 times.
