“Man Finds Rusty Metal in Taco from Guzman Y Gomez; SFA Launches Investigation”

“Singapore Food Agency investigates after customer discovers a 3.5cm metal piece in his meal, with multiple people falling ill.”

A disturbing incident occurred when a customer of the Mexican fast food chain Guzman Y Gomez (GYG) found a rusty 3.5cm metal piece in his taco. The incident took place on June 25, when the man, who wishes to remain anonymous, ordered tacos from the GYG outlet located at 332 Tanjong Katong Road through Deliveroo. After consuming part of the taco, he felt sharp pain in his mouth, leading him to spit out the food and discover the piece of metal.

The customer experienced side effects the following day, and both his wife and two friends, who also ate the same food, suffered from diarrhoea. In response to the incident, GYG offered compensation to the affected customer. However, the man decided to report the matter to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), which has since launched an investigation.

SFA is also taking enforcement action against GYG for failing to maintain proper cleanliness at its licensed premises. The agency’s investigation aims to determine how the metal piece ended up in the food and ensure that appropriate food safety measures are being followed.
