Customer complains about pricing and prawn freshness at a local seafood stall.
A man was left shocked after paying S$67 for a dish of five salted egg prawns at a seafood stall in Clementi. The customer, Shen Rong, took to Facebook to express his frustration, posting his complaint on the page Complaint Singapore. According to Shen, the prawns were “medium-sized” and not fresh, which added to his dissatisfaction.
The incident raised questions about the pricing at the stall, which is neither a restaurant nor a bistro. Shen claimed that despite the high cost, the prawns were not of the expected quality. Additionally, he said that staff members challenged him when he raised concerns about the price, leading to further frustration.
In response, the hawker explained that the sea prawns used in the dish cost approximately S$55 per kilogram, contributing significantly to the price of the dish. While the stall owner emphasized that seafood prices have risen, particularly for sea prawns, customers continue to voice concerns about value for money.
A photo posted by Shen Rong showing the dish sparked additional discussion among online users about whether such prices are justified for hawker-style meals.
