Covid-19 transmission risk leads to widespread testing, including free tests for the public who visited Hong Lim Market
The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) have announced plans to test all fishmongers from markets across Singapore after a Covid-19 outbreak linked to the Jurong Fishery Port spread to the Hong Lim Market. The risk of further transmission to other markets has prompted this precautionary measure.
To help fishmongers monitor their health, NEA will distribute Antigen Rapid Test kits. Additionally, free Covid-19 tests will be available for members of the public who visited Hong Lim Market & Food Centre between July 2 and July 16, 2021.
The infection appears to have been transmitted through interactions between stall vendors and delivery personnel from the Jurong Fishery Port. One confirmed case involves a female drinks stall vendor at Hong Lim Market, though the exact cause of her infection remains under investigation.
