One-Year-Old Syrian Child Dies in Forest on Poland-Belarus Border

The child becomes the youngest known victim amid ongoing border crisis, with freezing conditions claiming more lives.

A tragic incident has emerged from the Poland-Belarus border, where a one-year-old Syrian child has died in a forest. This child is the youngest known victim in the ongoing humanitarian crisis along the eastern edge of the European Union, where thousands of migrants remain stranded in freezing conditions.

According to Polish medical workers from the Emergency Medical Team PCPM, the child’s family had been living in the forest for over a month. The boy’s parents, both Syrian, were assisted by medical teams in the early hours of Thursday when the child was found dead. The team reported the discovery after receiving a distress call around 2:26 AM, which led them to a group of injured individuals.

Upon reaching the scene, the medical team found a young man in severe pain due to abdominal issues, and a Syrian couple, one with a stab wound and the other with a lacerated arm. Sadly, the one-year-old boy had already passed away, though the exact cause of death has not been established yet. At least 13 people have died in the area in recent weeks, mostly from exposure to the harsh weather conditions.

This death is part of the larger ongoing standoff between Belarus and the EU, which has seen Belarus accused of orchestrating the crisis by facilitating the movement of migrants, primarily from the Middle East, to the border. The situation has created dire conditions, with many migrants trapped and in need of urgent assistance.

In recent days, local communities have mourned the victims, including the death of 19-year-old Syrian Ahmad al-Hasan, whose body was found in the Bug River in Poland. Witnesses claim he was forced into the water by a Belarusian soldier, adding to the escalating tragedy at the border.
