From Polish-accented English to Singlish, the TikTok star embraces Singapore’s local culture and food
A Polish woman living in Singapore has taken TikTok by storm, showcasing her impressive Singlish skills. Posting videos since November 15, the TikTok user @mamiczka (also known as @mamikoyoko on Instagram) has delighted her followers with her fun and authentic use of Singapore’s local lingo.
In one video, she humorously documents her transition from speaking English with a Polish accent to using Singlish over the course of a year. Initially saying, “One day in Singapur,” she then proudly exclaims, “One year in Singapore. Aiyah, I tell you ah, the bak kut teh here very shiok. I gain weight only lah.”
In another video shot along Orchard Road, she is seen ordering an ice cream sandwich from a street vendor, saying, “Hello uncle, I want the bread one. How much ah?” After taking a bite, she exclaims, “Ice cream bread very shiok.”
