Prince Charles Remembers ‘Dear Papa’ as Funeral Details Emerge

Prince Philip’s Final Request for His Coffin to Be Carried on a Land Rover

Prince Charles has paid an emotional tribute to his “dear papa,” Prince Philip, following the Duke of Edinburgh’s passing at the age of 99. In a statement issued at Highgrove, the Prince of Wales expressed that his father was “a very special person” who would have been deeply moved by the outpouring of tributes from around the world.

“I already miss my father enormously,” Charles said, but he found comfort in the worldwide reaction to his father’s death. Prince Charles added that Prince Philip would have been surprised by the heartfelt remarks made about him, highlighting the profound impact the Duke had on many people’s lives.

The royal family has announced that Prince Philip’s funeral will take place on Saturday, April 17, at Windsor Castle. In line with his wishes, the Duke of Edinburgh’s coffin will be borne on a specially modified Land Rover, which he had a hand in designing, reflecting his longstanding connection to the vehicle.

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, confirmed he would travel from California to attend the funeral. However, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who is pregnant, will not attend, as advised by her physician.

The funeral will be an intimate service, with details of the ceremony being kept in line with Prince Philip’s personal requests for simplicity and respect.
