Russian Forces Press Toward Kyiv Amid Rising Casualties: Key Updates

Ukraine’s President Defiant, as Death Toll Rises and International Pressure Builds

Russian forces made significant advances towards Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, on Saturday, following a night of explosions and street fighting that caused chaos in the city. With civilians seeking shelter underground, the toll of the conflict mounted, reaching at least 198 deaths, including three children. The Ukrainian health ministry also reported over 1,100 injuries, with dozens of those being children.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy addressed the nation, vowing that Ukraine would resist Russian forces. He affirmed that Ukrainian troops continued to hold control over Kyiv and other vital regions, declaring, “We are defending our land and the future of our children.” His remarks echoed the resolve of a nation unwilling to submit to external aggression.

In response to Russia’s invasion, international support for Ukraine has grown. European leaders are increasingly in favor of excluding Russia from the global Swift payment system, with France backing the move and Italy’s ruling coalition signaling support. Discussions in Germany are underway to send 400 RPGs to Ukraine, though a decision is yet to be finalized.
