Total community cases rise as the Ministry of Health reports 49 new infections, with 38 linked to the community
On May 16, 2021, the Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 49 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore, bringing the total number of cases to 61,585. Of the new cases, 38 are in the community, with 21 linked to previous infections and 17 unlinked cases.
Among the new cases, notable individuals include a Sheng Siong supermarket staff member, a Singapore Polytechnic student, and two dealers from Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino.
The report highlights a rise in community transmission, with 131 new cases in the past week compared to 39 the week before. The number of unlinked cases in the community also surged, rising from 6 to 32 in the past week.
In total, 13 of the new community cases had already been placed under quarantine earlier, while the remaining 11 cases are imported and had been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival.
