Singapore Dominates Myanmar 3-0 in Opening Suzuki Cup Match

The Lions’ strong performance puts them at the top of Group A—how far can they go on home turf?

Singapore kicked off their AFF Suzuki Cup campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over Myanmar at the National Stadium on December 5. The match, held in front of 7,588 fans while adhering to social distancing measures, saw the Lions make a strong statement in the tournament.

All three goals came in the first half. Ikhsan Fandi was the standout performer, scoring two goals in the 39th and 45th minutes. Safuwan Baharudin added another in the 34th minute, securing a comfortable lead for Singapore.

The win places Singapore at the top of Group A, ahead of Thailand, who defeated Timor Leste 2-0. Newly naturalised player Song Ui-young, of Korean descent, started for Singapore, adding another layer of excitement to the team’s lineup.

With this impressive start, Singapore looks well-positioned to go far in the tournament on home ground.
