Singapore Reports Locally-Transmitted Covid-19 Case After Vaccination, More Than a Month Later

A 23-year-old worker tests positive for Covid-19 despite being vaccinated, raising concerns over breakthrough infections.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 20 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore on April 11, bringing the total number of cases to 60,653. Among these, one case of locally-transmitted Covid-19 was reported—a 23-year-old male Indian national working as a lashing specialist at Seafront Support Company Pte Ltd.

This individual, residing in a dormitory at Brani Terminal Avenue, is unlinked to any existing cases. He was detected during a routine Covid-19 test on April 7 as part of the Rostered Routine Testing (RRT). His previous tests, including one from March 24, had all returned negative results. Despite having received the Covid-19 vaccination over a month ago, the worker’s serology test came back positive, indicating a current infection.

The case highlights concerns about breakthrough infections, where individuals contract the virus even after vaccination, underscoring the continued vigilance required even with vaccination efforts. The case is asymptomatic, and the MOH continues to monitor the situation.
