Singaporean Housewife Detained Under ISA for Escalating Radical Behavior

34-year-old was previously issued a Restriction Order after being radicalized by her husband.

Ruqayyah binti Ramli, a 34-year-old housewife and former part-time freelance religious teacher, has been detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) in April 2021 due to an escalation in her radical behavior. She had previously been issued a Restriction Order (RO) in August 2020 after being found to have been radicalized by her husband.

Her husband was later repatriated to Malaysia, where he received a three-year sentence for possessing terrorism-related propaganda materials. Investigations revealed that Ruqayyah had supported his intentions to join and fight for the terrorist group ISIS in Syria.

The Internal Security Department (ISD) reported that Ruqayyah’s radical behavior had intensified since being placed under the Restriction Order, leading to her detention under the ISA.
