Closure Set for May Due to Increased Operational Costs
Smiths Authentic British Fish & Chips, a staple of Balmoral Plaza for over 14 years, will be closing its doors in May due to escalating operational costs. The popular British eatery, known for its authentic take on the classic fish and chips dish, made the announcement on its Facebook page on March 28, 2025.
The restaurant, which opened in 2006, has been run by two British owners with a deep passion for sharing a piece of British culinary heritage with Singapore. According to their official website, Smiths has long prided itself on being the only place in Singapore serving truly authentic British fish and chips.
In their farewell message, the owners expressed their gratitude to loyal customers, thanking them for their unwavering support over the years. They noted that the decision to close was driven by the rising costs that have become unsustainable for the business.
Although they are shutting down, Smiths encouraged their patrons to visit before the closure to enjoy their signature dishes one last time. The owners have expressed their appreciation for the lasting relationships they have built with the local community and their desire to see their customers a few more times before they close their doors for good.
