Ralph Gonsalves, 74, Injured During Protest Against Potential Mandatory Vaccines
Ralph Gonsalves, the Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, is recovering in the hospital after being struck in the head by a rock thrown by an anti-vaccine protester during a demonstration on Thursday. The protest, which involved about 200 demonstrators, was focused on concerns about the government’s potential mandate for COVID-19 vaccinations for certain workers, including nurses and police officers.
Video footage from the scene showed a dazed Gonsalves, with blood running down his face, being rushed away by security personnel. The prime minister was later flown to Barbados for medical treatment. Fortunately, Gonsalves shared an update on social media, reassuring the public that he was recovering well and there was no sign of neurological damage.
The protest was organized by unions representing various workers who fear mandatory vaccinations. Gonsalves, 74, expressed his gratitude for the support and well-wishes he received after the attack.
