Early Birds Can Catch a Beautiful Crescent Moon in the Sky
If you’re an early riser, set your alarm for the early hours of Tuesday morning to catch a stunning sight in the sky. A waning crescent moon will pass through the constellation of Taurus, the Bull. At 03:00 BST, 27% of the moon’s visible surface will be illuminated, forming a beautiful crescent.
The moon will appear just above the head of Taurus, which is easily recognized by the V-shaped star cluster known as the Hyades. The bright orange star Aldebaran, which marks the eye of the bull, is also a key feature of this constellation. Taurus is one of the oldest star patterns known, dating back to ancient Babylonian astronomy.
For those in the southern hemisphere, the moon will be visible in the north-eastern sky around 5 a.m. As the week progresses, the moon will move towards the constellation of Gemini, with the crescent becoming an even thinner and more striking sliver.
