Supermarkets in Singapore Offer More Chicken Than Label Indicates Amid Inflation Concerns

Sheng Siong and Cold Storage Found to Provide Extra Weight on Boneless Chicken Breasts

As inflation continues to erode consumer purchasing power in Singapore, a recent investigation by Shin Min Daily News has revealed that certain supermarkets are providing more chicken than stated on their product labels. The investigation targeted popular supermarkets like Sheng Siong, Cold Storage, and NTUC FairPrice, focusing on boneless chicken breasts and fillets.

The probe comes after a controversy where a boneless chicken breast labeled as 224g at NTUC FairPrice weighed only 165g, which raised questions about the accuracy of product weights. Upon conducting random checks on various chicken products, the investigation showed that both Sheng Siong and Cold Storage had been consistently giving customers more chicken than the labeled weight.

This discovery offers some relief to consumers, indicating that these supermarkets are giving a fairer deal, at least when it comes to poultry. The findings come at a time when inflation continues to push food prices higher, causing concern among buyers about receiving value for their money.
