Three New Locally-Transmitted Covid-19 Cases in Singapore Linked to Delayed Medical Attention

Individuals Did Not Seek Immediate Care Despite Showing Symptoms

On January 30, 2021, Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 58 new Covid-19 cases, including three locally transmitted ones that are currently unlinked. These cases highlight the importance of seeking medical attention promptly if experiencing symptoms.

One of the cases involves a 72-year-old aviation screening officer at Changi Airport Terminal 1 (Case 59757). Despite developing a cough and sore throat on January 25, he did not seek medical help. He continued to work until January 27 when he was tested for Covid-19 after being symptomatic. The test result, which came back positive on January 28, was confirmed the next day. His serology test suggests the infection is recent.

Additionally, the man played tennis with 12 others at the National Service Resort & Country Club on January 28. Authorities are investigating if any Safe Management Measures were violated during the gathering.

The other two community cases remain unlinked and further investigations are ongoing. These cases underscore the risks of delaying medical attention when showing symptoms, especially with the potential to spread the virus to others.
