Hirano Triumphs in Snowboard Halfpipe, Schulting Defends Title, and Germany’s Grotheer Wins Skeleton Gold
The seventh day of the Winter Olympics saw stunning performances across multiple events, with Ayumu Hirano of Japan claiming gold in the men’s snowboard halfpipe. Despite fierce competition, including from legendary snowboarder Shaun White, Hirano secured his victory with a powerful final run, symbolizing the passing of the torch to the new generation of snowboarders.
In other events, Suzanne Schulting from the Netherlands successfully defended her 1,000m short track title, setting a new world record in the 500m short track skating along the way. Germany’s Christopher Grotheer claimed gold in the men’s skeleton, delivering a flawless performance to top the podium.
In curling, Great Britain triumphed 8-3 over Norway in the men’s round robin, while Korea defeated Great Britain 9-7 in the women’s round robin curling. Norway’s Marte Röiseland also took home gold in the women’s 7.5km biathlon sprint, and Sweden’s Nils van der Poel claimed victory in the men’s 10,000m speed skating.
Finland captured gold in cross-country skiing, while Swiss skier Lara Gut-Behrami unofficially secured the women’s super-G gold. Meanwhile, the US curling team celebrated a big win, and Mikaela Shiffrin finished outside the medal places in another disappointing performance.
